This relatively new technique is very much like sandblasting. A small stream of air mixed with aluminum oxide particles is directed at the area of the tooth where the cavity is located. This particle stream then abrades away the decayed part of the tooth and a small white filling is then placed. There are some limitations. We cannot effectively remove old fillings nor can we remove large deep cavities at this time. For many however, this technology can be of great value. |
