we clean all dental handpieces to remove surface material and then heat sterilize them in an autoclave we clean all dental instruments in an ultrasonic cleaner, then package and heat sterilize them we use a biologic monitoring service to be certain that our autoclave is always working properly instruments which cannot withstand the intense heat of the autoclave are chemically sterilized we use disposable prophy (polishing) angles, air/water syringe tips, suction tips and other disposable instruments wherever possible we wear disposable gloves, face masks, and protective eyewear as barrier techniques we disinfect all environmental surfaces with a hospital grade germicide/disinfectant prior to each patient many surfaces (light handles, headrests, trays, etc.) are covered with disposable sleeves or wraps we utilize strict waste control procedures for sharp instruments, such as needles and scalpel blades, and for biohazardous waste we take an initial, comprehensive medical history of each patient, then update it at subsequent appointments
we use
sterile water in our handpiece water lines to
ensure bacteria free water
